Vistors Guide to Reykjavik

Introduction
Reykjavik is Iceland’s largest and capital city, located in the North Atlantic Ocean.  With a population of approximately 120,000 Reykjavik is the worlds most northerly capital city.  Reykjavik is the centre of the Greater Reykjavik Area, located in the south west of Iceland, receives only 4 hours of daylight on the shortest day in winter due its location only slightly south of the Arctic Circle, in comparison, summer months enjoy long day light hours where the nights are nearly as bright as the daytime.

Where to go / Places to see
Whilst in Reykjavik, why not take the time visit some of the cities many attractions; The National Museum of Iceland; Laugavegur - Reykjavik’s main shopping street;  Blue Lagoon – a geothermal spa located near the city; Hallgrimskirkja – the largest church in iceland; Nautholsvik – a geothermally heated beach; Raohus Reykjavikur – the City Hall.  All will provide a cultural and influencing experience for visitors whether it be for the first time tourist or a regular traveller.  Why not hire a car from www.carhire-iceland.com to explore more of Reykjavik and the surrounding area.

Where to Eat
Reykjavik’s cosmopolitan appeal has attracted a generation of innovative, cutting edge restaurants established by Iceland’s imaginative chefs.  Fresh fish and seafood, mountain lamb, cured shark and creamy skyr are Iceland’s finest ingredients and you will find them in varying styles and flavours influenced by international cuisine.

Nightlife
Reykjavik’s night life lives up to its name, although takes a while to get going.  Locals generally drink from home early evening, while the city comes to life after midnight.  Favorites including Kaffibarinn (lookout for the London Underground sign), CafĂ© Oliver always draws a crowd, whilst Pravda delivers a cool venue for the younger crowd.  Hipper still, Sirkus delivers the best of the hip and trendy arena.

Hotels
Whilst there are no 5 star hotels in Reykjavik, largely down the lack of on site swimming pools, the city offers some of the finest 4 star accommodation you will find.  Hotel Borg being one of the cities top stop overs, boasting 56 luxurious rooms.  Borg is one of the cities trendiest spots located in the heart of down town Reykjavik.  Other favorites include the Radisson SAS 1919 and the Centre Hotel Skjaldbreid located on the cities primary shopping street.
