Vestmannaeyjar is a town on the Heimaey Islands. The island is the largest of the Westman islands of the coast of Iceland. The area has some magnificent scenery due to a large volcano on the island.

Vestmannaeyjar Airport has two runways and there are daily scheduled flights to and from Reykjavik. Air Iceland is he main operator although it is possible to fly on a chartered flight to the mainland. The flight is very short and usually takes around 25 minutes. The airport is more or less an aerodrome so there are no luxuries in the departure lounge. The chartered flights to Bakri take about 10 minutes or so to reach the southern point of the mainland.
